Madrid

The next morning, we got up (not too early) and had breakfast at our hotel. Yum!!! My favorite thing was the cheese (and, of course, the awesome coffee!). Amanda met us there and we took the trains into Madrid.

Mom and Amanda waiting for the train:
Madrid is awesome! Go there! I liked it way better than Paris. The first thing Amanda took us to was the Royal Palace. It is where the King and Queen "live." They don't actually live there, but kings and queens used to live there and the current King and Queen do state dinners there and special occasions. You can't take pictures inside it, but here are some of the outside.

The cathedral across the way:
View from the Palace grounds:The gardens outside:After we went through the Royal Palace, which was unbelieveably beautiful, Amanda took us to see Plaza Mayor.
Mom and Amanda checking out the art. I bought Dan a painting here. He loves it.
Next, we had lunch, and then we went to the Museo del Prado. It's an art museum focusing on traditional Spanish art. We couldn't take pictures inside of it, so I have none. But after that, we went to the Reina Sophia Museum. It was COOL, and we got in for free because we went later in the day. The Reina Sophia is mostly known for Picasso's Guernica, but there is tons of modern art and surreal work in there. It was my favorite thing that we saw in Madrid.
Outside the Reina Sophia:
Some of the art from inside:After that, we headed to the train station so we could go back to Alcala for dinner.
The greenhouse inside the train station:

Dinner was more yummy tapas and fantastic red wine. We didn't stay up very late because the next morning, we knew we were headed for Barcelona!
