Douglas County Voters Suck

My county voted against an initiative for schools last night. The district will be making cuts now. I have been told my job is safe because the money for my position comes from a different source, but others will lose theirs. My county also voted for McCain and is heavy on the registered republicans. It's just another example for me of how Republicans care so much about unborn children but don't care about the live ones.

Sorry to hear about the school bill not passing. Kind of a bit unfair generalization on republicans. Johnson County Republicans have recently approved 2 recent school tax increases and a public safety increases, and it is heavily republican and went for McCain. Sounds like they just suck in Douglas County, Colorado.

Fair enough. It's just how I feel right now, not just in relation to education. It's also how I feel about all the Iraqi kids who have died in Iraq because of our country's attacks there.

And don't even get me started on the lack of funding for No Child Left Behind. That whole thing is a crock.

Okay, now I know our soldiers are not purposely killing civilians or children in Iraq, and as things get better their lives are improving and will be better than they ever were under Obama. Unfortunately there is collateral damage in war sometimes, but the way we conduct war has dramatically reduced the threat to all civilians compared to previous wars in history. It is the terrorists who indiscriminatly bomb in crowded markets that kill innocent children and civilians wihtout thought or care to what they are doing. As far as no child left behind, I agree that if it is the law they should fund it fully and make it work, but that was a bipartisan effort backed by Democrats originally and I believe they have to approve the federal budget. Funny that congress has been in complete democratic control now for 2 years and almost in control for 4 years, and they haven't improved it.

50/50 in the senate is not democratic control. Republicans jacked up the economy so much that now they can't do much about funding education. I am so sick of the argument that it's just an accident when civilians die. Ican't wait until 10 weeks from now when I will not be living in a country that is run by a war criminal. Democrats originally backed NCLB because they intended to fund it. Republicans made sure that would not happen. Our schools will be better and safer once the dems have a chance to fix things. I know you far right people will say, "Oh look...he hasn't made things better yet" in about a week. But remember, Bush and the Republicans (who were in actual control of congress for most of his presidency, not "almost control") took 8 years to mess it all up, so Obama's administration will not be able to fix it overnight.

I'll give you some of the fact that the republicans in congress caused trouble, but that is not Bush's fault. But, do you think American Soldiers are intentionally killing Iraq children and civilians? I hope not. I have several close friends and co-workers that have been or are in Iraq and they all believe they were doing good and tried to do the right things. They also think we should not leave and that freeing Iraq from Saddam was the right thing to do.

Your friends don't represent the opinions of every soldier. Of course I don't think our troops are killing kids on purpose. It is part of the horror of war and the whole thing should have been taken more seriously before we went in there. Many of my republican friends want to say, "Well, we're there now so get over it..." or whatever, but I think we need to keep in mind the fact that we should never have been there in the first place and get out. It DOES matter that we went in under false pretenses.

I also disagree with your assertion that what has happened in congress is no fault of Bush's. Great presidents LEAD. If he had been a better president he could have had more influence over what they did.

I'm done, we just have to call it a truce and agree to disagree. You have some valid points, but I still don't agree with the overall democratic ideal and solution to problems. We'll just have to wait and see what happens.
